MySQL

MySQL is an open source (free) alternative to MS Access and MS SQL. It has rich functionality and scales to very large applications (I have used MySQL on tables with over a million records). Fee based support is available from MySQL AB and a vast array of third parties including LSNet. Dozens of books have been published about MySQL, An active IRC group exists at freenode.net.
