Galax Farmers Market Sept 19 & 20
Hey there, market folks!
46 degrees this morning- maybe a little warmer or cooler at your
house- but fall is here! It's my favorite season, for a lot of
reasons: my birthday is in November; I get to grow and eat all the
best greens like spinach, lettuce, arugula, and kale; Thanksgiving is
the best American holiday;it's apple season; I have time to slow
down, take stock, review notes, and plan for the future. Oh, and the
weather, leaves changing, etc., etc., too.....:)
The cookbook swap last weekend was a success, and I'd like to
continue. I'll lug the book box with me every weekend through this
month at least, so try to remember to bring any cookbook you'd like to
never see again, and trade it for something new. There's quite a
variety in there, so you're sure to find something appealing.
This week at the market, we'll have:
Mountain Memories Farm, Elk Creek: Dawn will be bringing more grass
fed lamb and hopefully some fresh eggs.
Robert Dalton, Meadows of Dan: apples, cabbage, jams and jellies
Nita's Breads, Galax: Bonita will bring fresh apple, banana nut, and
pumpkin breads, whole and by the slice
Earl Cherry, Elk Creek: somehow Earl is able to work two jobs, raise
two kids (with one on the way), grow a garden, and STILL manage to
show up at the market bright and early! And with a smile on his face
to boot! This week he'll have jalapenos and corn, and probably some
tomatoes, too.
Groundswell Farm, Galax: I'll bring kale, butternut squash, beets,
cherry tomatoes, basil, chard and beet greens, eggplant, sweet and hot
peppers, and Long Island Cheese squash.
Come by and see us on Friday or Saturday, and enjoy this fresh food
while it's available! We're open until November 1 this year, which
means there's only 6 more weekends in our season.......it's hard to
believe it was 16 weeks ago when we started this thing!
See you soon!
