Software Freedom Day 2008
We'll be celebrating "free" software in the LSNet Conference Room at 115 1/2 W Grayson St, Galax, VA 24333 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on September 20th. This is an opportunity to learn about software that you won't find on the shelves of the big box stores because it is all free.
Not only does the software cost no - $0 - money but it was written by people who love what they do and want to share it with others. Downloading and updating free software for Windows with filehippo.comJim will demonstrate using the Update Checker to maintain free software and provide hints on "bet of class" and usage.1Woody will make an introduction to OpenOffice, a Microsoft compatible office suite.Exploring Ubuntu LinuxBoot up a "live cd" and test drive the latest release.Extending DrupalLearn how to add functionality to your Drupal website with "drush" - the Drupal Shell.Notes:
- Kosher Coffee and snacks provided
- Bring your laptop (or desktop - monitors, keyboards and mice available)
- Ubuntu installations must begin before noon. "Live" demonstrations anytime.
