Woodlawn United Methodist Church will present a Christmas Eve Candlelight service at 6:30 p.m. and perform a play, "Faces Around the Manger." The congregation will be given small candles with shields
as they enter the sanctuary for the service. Traditional Christmas Carols will be sung, special music will be heard, and the Advent candles will be lit. The congregation will hear characters who were present at the nativity of Bethlehem tell their stories. Then all those present will be invited to light their candles and encircle the sanctuary to sing a closing carol. All are invited to come and celebrate the birth of Jesus.
To reach Woodlawn church, turn at Harmons Clothing store on Coulson Church Road. Then, almost immediately, turn right on Woodlawn Road. The church is directly across from Woodlawn School.
The adult choir of Woodlawn United Methodist Church will present their Christmas cantata, entitled "Christmas Worship" on Sunday, December 27, at 11 a.m. The choir is led by director Lauren Gunnell-Beck and pianist Linda Jenkins.
Shiloh United Methodist Church on Airport Road, Hillsville, will present a contemporary play, "Are You Coming?" December 27, at 6:30 p.m.
The invitations have been sent and the decorations put up. Now, a twelve-year-old-boy (whose identity becomes apparent as that of Jesus) waits for his guests to arrive at his birthday party. But as one person after another acknowledges the day in his or her own fashion while rejecting the invitation, the boy begins to despair that no one has truly remembered the meaning of Christmas. Following the play, there will be a birthday party for Jesus in the Fellowship Hall.
Black and white, short-haired male dog wearing blue collar but no ID. Found evening of Dec. 29th at the Quik Chek in Independence. Well fed and obviously very healthy and sweet, this dog acts like it really wants to be home. People who have already seen this dog believe they've seen it in town before and that it's owner lives or works close by. If you own this dog, or believe you might know who does, please contact Beth at 655-3995.
CHRISTMAS CANTATA -Mt.Vale United Methodist Church, Sunday, January 10th at 6:00PM. 3350 Meadow Creek Road, Galax, VA.
“I Hear The Prophet Callin’” by Pepper Choplin is a musical featuring folk music to celebrate the Christmas story from prophesies to fulfillment. You will hear those distinct musical flavors: Appalachian, Irish, Latin, Cajun and Early American. Our prayer is that this musical will serve you as you celebrate the story anew.
We will have a Candlelight Service immediately following the Cantata.
I almost missed the announcement of Stevie Wonder's designation as a UN-Messenger of Peace. That lead to the page - http://www.un.org/sg/mop/ - a most agreeable lot.
