My Upgrade Experience

A great man once said, "If I haven't reloaded my PC three times before my first cup of coffee it is sure to be a bad day!".

Everyone has heard all the boasts from Microsoft about how great the next Windows was going to be, and most of them were flops or just as buggy as the last version. Then the hackers of the world look at Microsoft and say, "oh yeah, try this on for size!" Well, I was a big fan of Vista, because the only issue I personally had was a printer driver that drove me nuts. I just kind of ignored all the people who said it's garbage, then I started having new issues as the Windows updates happened. I finally got tired of fighting, and last night, I finally broke out my copy of the new and improved Windows 7.

The upgrade was a little painful, and looking at the list of potential issues(26) that might possibly occur, I was thinking this is going to be a bad night. I started at 1:45 am and finished upgrading at 8:20. I did not realize that the upgrade touched so many files. I crossed my fingers at the last reboot, and bam! I got the new Windows logo and my familar logon asking for my password. After looking around, I found that my printer worked, my Blackberry tethering worked. I did updates this afternoon and they were all done in 25 min. I can say (by my own experience) that this is the nicer of the Windows builds. I don't know if anyone is familiar with the computer rating on Vista, but Windows 7 actually gives your equipment a better chance to run. My rating on Vista was 3.6; it is now 4.0. This has allowed a gamer such as myself to play some of the games I could not play due to this stupid rating system.

I know how most of the Linux guys feel about Windows, but so far this build is nice. Now, this is not a call for all the Linux guys to drop their OS that they like. This is just my experience.
