LinkedIn?
In pursuit of a shameless self-promotion, I unleashed LinkedIn.com on my address book of several thousand email addresses. I briefly examined the list and pushed the "Invite" button. As an unintended consequence, that list contains every email address that has passed my In and Out boxes for the past several years. Very likely, you were in that list. So was every bug report and mailing list I have ever subscribed to.
A few people wrote and said "What is this?" to which I replied essentially what I just said above. A couple hundred played along and said "Accept". A few of the bug list people found my indiscretion humorous. I thank them for that. There were a few humorless remarks but I filed those away neatly. Some of the mailing list people were not amused but life is too short and they are to stiff.
I've reconnected with a lot of old business partners and more than a few people who had sent me unsolicited email. I am finding it great sport and have some hope that it will result in a half dozen clients or so. I highly recommend the adventure. If you do try it, let me know how yo u make out. If I missed you, send an invitation to tarvid@ls.net, I will accept, and you can raid my list of connections.
