Taslima Nasrin
The present crisis is often cast as a was against Islamic extremism. Taslima frames it as rationalism versus fundamentalism. In this regard, her work is like Christopher Hitchens but unlike Christopher, she writes with a convincing feminist perspective.
I first heard of her during several visits to Bangladesh in the 90s but it wasn't until the recent furor in India and the calls for her death that I paid any real attention. An hour or so reading her story reminded me there is much need to support the human spirit.
